Band Program at MHCS

Band is provided at Mt. Horeb Christian School by Overture Band Programs Inc, a non-profit organization providing band programs to private and parochial schools and home-schooled students in Dane County since 2004.
Band is open to all students in 4th through 8th grade. Students who join band receive a weekly 25 minute, semi-private lesson (2-3 students per lesson group) and a weekly 30-40 minute large group band rehearsal. Band students learn how to play and care for the band instrument of their choice (flute, oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, baritone/euphonium, or percussion), how to read music, participate in two performances during the school year, and are exposed to a variety of music to help develop an effective appreciation of music. Lessons will take place on Mondays during the school day using a rotating schedule. This means that students will not be pulled from the same class every week for their band lesson. Group band will also take place on Mondays at a set time every week, most likely during the last period of the day.
